The Mooresville Graded school board could vote tonight on a proposed five-cent increase to the district's supplemental property tax for schools.
The school board meeting is set for 7 p.m. today.
Superintendent Mark Edwards has pitched the tax hike as a way to offset state cuts to the school district.
The current tax is 13.5 cents per $100 per assessed value for properties located within the school district's boundaries.
Edwards originally pitched a four-cent increase. But he told the Mooresville Tribune earlier this month that some parents and business leaders say they'll support a five-cent increase for schools.
The Mooresville Graded district currently has about 5,500 students at three elementary, two intermediate, one middle and one high school, according to its website. WCNC-TV contributed
