A Waxhaw man is jailed today, charged in connection with a Ballantyne-area bank robbery Tuesday afternoon.
Federal authorities say they believe the suspect is the same man who robbed the same bank last month.
The FBI said Wednesday morning that Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested Glenn Stewart Howie, 47, late Tuesday afternoon. They said a description of the suspect's vehicle helped lead CMPD officers to the man.
Howie is being held under $50,000 bond. He was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon in the robbery Tuesday of the RBC Bank branch on Ballantyne Village Way. That is not far from the intersection of Ballantyne Commons Parkway and Johnston Road (U.S. 521).
A spokeswoman for the FBI said Howie also was charged with common law robbery in a Jan. 4 heist at the same bank.
Tuesday’s robbery happened around 2:15 p.m. Authorities have not provided details about the incident but said the suspect implied he had a gun. It’s unclear what amount of money, if any, he was able to take from the bank.
In Tuesday's robbery, the suspect wore a toboggan, dark sunglasses and a dark jacket – gesturing to a female teller. In the Jan. 4 case, authorities say, the suspect wore a cowboy hat, sunglasses and a dark jacket robbed the bank around 3:30 p.m. He didn’t show a gun during the robbery, police said.
