Caldwell County authorities are investigating another suspected arson case. It would be at least the third such case in the county since the beginning of the year.
Caldwell County assistant fire marshal Kevin Brown said his office was asked to look into the blaze Tuesday night at a one-story, wood-frame house in the 200 block of Church Street in Rhodhiss. One person was home at the time.
Brown said Rhodhiss police Chief Tim Anthony and another motorist pulled into the driveway about 7:30 p.m. after seeing the house on fire. The other motorist kicked in the back door of the home and pulled the resident out. The resident was not seriously hurt, authorities say.
"It appears the fire was started using combustible materials in the attic of the home," Brown said. "Damages were mostly confined to the attic."
Brown said damage was about $5,000, and he said charges are pending in the case.
