Members of the Belmont Avenue Boys & Girls Club spent their Tuesday dreaming up inventions people cannot live without.

About 50 youths ages 10-15 participated in the brainstorm session that helped kick off the "Wouldn't It Be Cool If..." campaign, a contest hosted by Time Warner Cable's Connect a Million Minds and i.am FIRST, founded by musician will.i.am .

Connect A Million Minds is TWC's five-year, $100 million philanthropic initiative to get students excited about science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

After a short introduction video featuring will.i.am , students broke off to discuss their ideas of gaming consoles, flying sneakers and climate-control jackets.

Youths can enter the contest until March 28 by submitting an invention idea and discussing how math and science can make their invention a possibility. Ideas can be submitted by individuals or teams of two or three.

Finalists will pitch their ideas live to will.i.am and Dean Kamen at the FIRST Robotics Championship in St. Louis, Mo. The grand prize winner might have their idea developed by lead innovation firm Fahrenheit 212.
