Davidson Friends

Groundbreaking ceremony: On Feb. 12, the Davidson Quaker community held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new meetinghouse at 625 South St., Davidson.

This groundbreaking is an important milestone in Davidson Quakers' journey towards establishing a permanent home. In 1989, six people with ties to Davidson College, including three professors, began meeting for unprogrammed Quaker worship in the Carolina Inn on Main Street. After outgrowing the space available in that location, Davidson Friends worshiped at Calvary Presbyterian. In 2007, the Quakers acquired the property on South Street. The new meetinghouse will include a renovation of an existing building and will add 2,300 square feet of space, allowing Friends for the first time to hold their weekly worship services at this location. The Meetinghouse was designed by Paul B. Clark and will be built by Meridian DesignBuild and T/A England Custom Builders. davidson.quaker.org.
