Cornell Drakeford, 42, of Charlotte, was arrested early Friday at his residence and charged in connection with Wednesday's robbery of a Charlotte Metro Credit Union branch in Matthews. Mecklenburg County Sheriff

Matthews police said they have arrested a suspect in Wednesday's robbery of a Charlotte Metro Credit Union branch.

Police say Cornell Oneal Drakeford, 42, was arrested as his Charlotte residence early Friday. The arrest came less than 48 hours after the robbery.

Police said a man entered the credit union about 9 a.m. Wednesday, demanded money, and then ran off. No injuries were reported. The robbery caused authorities to order a lockdown at nearby Butler High School.

Drakeford was charged with felony common-law robbery and was being held in a Mecklenburg County jail late Friday under $15,000 bond.
