Cohen leads balanced Wildcats romp over Eagles

STATESBORO, Ga. Jake Cohen had 16 points, eight rebounds, three assists and four blocked shots to lead Davidson past Georgia Southern 71-54 Saturday night in the Wildcats' regular-season finale.

De'Mon Brooks had 14 points, five rebounds and two blocks for Davidson (22-7, 16-2 Southern), and JP Kuhlman scored 15 points and matched a career high with nine rebounds. Nik Cochran scored 12 points, all in the second half.

Jelani Hewitt led Georgia Southern (14-14, 12-6) with 17 points, and Eric Ferguson had 13 points and five rebounds.

Defense was the story again for Davidson, which held the Eagles to 31 percent shooting, and Cohen and Brooks combined for Davidson's six blocked shots. The Wildcats also held a 48-33 rebounding edge.

The Wildcats held the Eagles without a point for a 5-minute, 24-second stretch in the first half and then without a field goal for a 5:04 period in the second half.

The Wildcats will return to action in the conference tournament next Saturday in AshevilleDavidson will have an opening-round bye.
