Covenant Day School sent a team of volunteers to Haiti Feb. 18-25. Over the last four years, 35 students have gone to nine orphanages in Haiti, assisting with different needs.
This year, the team of 12 students read to children, taught them computer skills, hosted a Bible school, painted a mural, created a portable library and built a lecture podium.
A focus of this years trip was also improving nutrition for the children. The team examined orphans to establish a body mass index benchmark, in order to track progress.
The students who volunteered to serve this year were: seniors Mark Erickson, Madison Underwood, Hannah Johnson, Catherine Wilkerson, Emily Salo, Alison Fong and Kyle Hunkler; juniors Rachael Snapper, Carly Starnes, Caroline Peklenk and James Dillon; and freshman Roni Langley.
