Staff writers for The Eagle, East Mecklenburg’s student newspaper, won awards in the National Federation of Press Women’s At-Large High School Communications contest.

Hannah Lieberman won first place for her review of the Mummies exhibit at Discovery Place. Justin Perry, Carolyn Coons and Derek Zhang won first place in the environment category for their center spread on going green at East Mecklenburg.

They will now compete in the National High School Communications Contest. First place winners at the national competition will receive $100 each. The list of winners and a sampling of winning entries will also be printed in the Adviser Update, a publication put out by the Dow Jones News Fund for high school journalism and publications advisors.

First, second and third place national winners are also invited to attend the NFPW annual communications conference in September where they are individually honored and presented with certificates.
