Twenty schools across the state competed at the N.C. Debate and Speech State Championship tournament April 20-21. Winners from the Charlotte area:
In Open Congressional Debate, Porter Nenon from Myers Park High placed first and Catherine Bizub of North Mecklenburg third.
In Novice Congressional Debate, Francis Pray from Charlotte Catholic finished second and Jacob Greenblatt and Rachel Pomerantz from Providence High third and fourth.
In Open Public Forum, Ardrey Kell High’s RA team came in first place.
In Novice Public Forum, North Mecklenburg High’s team of Irfan Mekic and Abhi Kulgod placed first.
In Dramatic Interpretation, John Pope of Marvin Ridge High was first, James Williams from North Mecklenburg second.
ln Humorous Interpretation, Sarah Roy from Myers Park was second.
In Duo Interpretation, Jordan Abbatiello and Micah White from Central Cabarrus High placed first, Carly Ruda and Micah Stubbs of Ardrey Kell second.
In Original Oratory, Colleen Watson from North Mecklenburg placed first and Lauren King of Marvin Ridge finished second.
In Oral Interpretation, Vanessa Ye from Ardrey Kell took first and Lauren Calucag of North Mecklenburg second.
In Impromptu Speaking, Colleen Watson from North Mecklenburg and Matt Couch from Myers Park tied for second.
In Radio Speaking, Austin Taggart of Ardrey Kell placed first, Luke Miller from Marvin Ridge second.
