House District 101

Democrat Beverly Earle faces a Democratic challenger in her bid for a ninth term.

No Republican filed in this heavily Democratic district in northwest Charlotte.

Lawrence Brinson

Age: 41

Hometown: Fayetteville

Family: Married, three children

Education: Graduate in economics, Johnson C. Smith University

Occupation: CMS teacher at Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology

Political experience: None.

Top priority: Education. “A lot of times you hear non-educators talk about education, but I feel like I’m more in touch than most as a teacher. One of the things we would look at is making sure the schools are funded properly to be successful, making sure teachers receive the pay that they deserve.”

Beverly Earle

Age: 68

Hometown: Greensboro

Family: One son, two granddaughters

Education: Attended North Carolina A&T

Occupation: Full-time state legislator, retired from BellSouth

Political experience: Nine terms representing District 101

Top priority: “Of course, jobs and the economy are important. But my passion has always been on social services, and dealing with people and issues. We certainly need more funding for health and human services, and we need to appropriate more funding in the areas of mental health.”
