Piedmont IB Middle finished first in the Division B category in the N.C. Science Olympiad state tournament April 28 at N.C. State.
Piedmont IBs 204 points topped the 45-school field in Division B. Jay M. Robinson Middle was second, J.M. Alexander Middle fourth. As first- and second-place winners, Piedmont IB and Jay M. Robinson advance to the national tournament May 18-19 in Orlando.
Both schools have participated in the national competition before. Division C (high school) teams from CMS also placed well. Ardrey Kell was seventh among 43 high schools, Myers Park eighth, Providence 12th, East Mecklenburg 13th and North Mecklenburg 18th.
