Amanda and Mark Stallings

Love letters
We’re looking for young married couples to tell us how they fell in love. How did you meet? What were your first impressions? How was your first date? What attracted you to each other?

Mark, 32, and Amanda, 31, met inadvertently through co-workers and joke it must have been destiny. The two married July 18, 2009, and on each anniversary Amanda still thanks her co-worker. Amanda tells their story.

Blind date pass: My co-worker tried to set me up on a blind date with her husband’s college roommate, Mark, while I was going through a breakup about six years ago. Mark had been in their wedding, and from the photos she brought in I thought he was good-looking, but wasn’t interested in a blind date.

Small world: A year later I was out with a group of friends at Coyote Joe’s when a random girl came up to our table and started chatting with me about our jobs. When she mentioned where she worked it sparked a faint memory of Mark, and I said I’d heard of a guy who worked there. She replied, “That is my friend, he is sitting right behind me!” So, we started talking.

Go State: Mark is a huge N.C. State fan and alumnus and there was a football game on the big screen. He was more enthralled with watching that than meeting me. But his co-worker and I had exchanged numbers and she later called to ask if I would mind if she gave my number to Mark. He called a few days later, we went on a dinner date and talked for hours.

Thanks again: Mark is spontaneous and his blue eyes stood out to me. So did the way he carried himself. He’d gone straight from college to being on his own and I admired that. We dated two years and were engaged for one, and we both credit our co-workers (and the series of wild coincidences) for pushing us together. Hilary Trenda
