The winner: When I need to change the blade on my lawnmower, I remove the gas cap, and place a piece of plastic wrap over the opening. Then I place the cap back on. When I raise the mower to remove the blade, the plastic wrap keeps the gas from spilling out. Ed Bair, Charlotte


Use curtain rod in laundry room

With a small laundry room, there is no area to hang anything. A shower curtain extension rod solves the problem. This rod can be adjusted to fit in the space above the washer and dryer. Marge Mizerek, Indian Land, S.C.


DIY laminating move

When I get an annual paper ID like a car registration or insurance card, I cover it with clear package tape. Thinner than lamination, it keeps the laser print from smearing. Bill Barnes, Charlotte
