Because not every day of vacation has perfect weather, here are some indoor ideas for fun on rainy and cloudy days.

Mini-golf

The vast majority of mini-golf courses that crowd the Coastal Highway are outdoors, but Old Pro Golf lets you tee up inside two large warehouse-style buildings in Ocean City, Md. The two-level Safari Village course at 136th Street offers 18 holes surrounded by treehouselike walkways, gushing waterfalls and life-size animals; another option at 68th Street has an under-the-sea theme.

Ice skating

Few places at the beach are cooler than the Carousel Oceanfront Hotel’s ice rink, which is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily through Labor Day. There’s more of an Ice Capades feel from June 13 to Aug. 21, when ice-dancing company the Next Ice Age performs a 40-minute show nightly at 6:30.

Shopping

When it rains, a lot of people head to the popular outlet malls in Rehoboth, but there’s much more to explore. Berlin’s historic downtown is filled with small antique shops and boutiques. Highlights include the Coconut Bay Trading Co., where objects range from Burmese marionettes to 19th-century Russian icons, and the eclectic Nest, which mixes new bags and scarves with antique furnishings. Delaware destinations include antique malls and bookstores on the quaint main streets of Milford and downtown Lewes.

Brewery tours

A visit to Dogfish Head Brewery is probably at the top of every beer lover’s list – reservations for free tours are recommended – but the Delmarva beer scene has greatly expanded since last Memorial Day. The 16 Mile Brewing Co., which is getting its brews on the menu at more beach bars, unveiled a new tavern and tasting room at its Georgetown, Del., brewery in January.

The Evolution Craft Brewing Co. left Delaware for Salisbury, Md., earlier this spring, and its owners opened a much larger tasting room and brewery along with Public House, a locavore-friendly restaurant and bar next door. On the menu: beers on a dozen taps, sauteed asparagus topped with sauteed duck eggs and honeyed yogurt, and pork belly served with ramps and fiddlehead greens.

Now open daily, the Burley Oak bar and brewery in Berlin poured its first beer in August 2011.

Perhaps the most unusual new arrival is the Fin City Brewing nanobrewery inside Hooper’s Crab House in West Ocean City. It offers two draft beers – a spicy Sneaky Wheat ale and the Fin Light, which my bartender compared to Coors Light – and you can get them only at the riverfront restaurant and bar.

Museum

The Ocean City boardwalk offers more than games and T-shirt shops: At the southern end, you’ll find the Ocean City Life-Saving Station Museum, which hosts exhibits about the town’s history and the Life Saving Service that rescued mariners in trouble. Parents will welcome the free programs for kids at 10 a.m. Monday through Saturday, including knot-tying lessons (Wednesday), shark school (Thursday) and feedings for aquatic animals in the museum’s many aquariums (Saturday).

Theater

For 30 years, the Rehoboth Summer Children’s Theatre has offered original plays for vacationing kids and their parents. From June 27 to Aug. 29, the troupe puts on “Puss in Boots,“ “Cinderella” and “The Jungle Book” in Rehoboth, Dewey Beach and Lewes. Shows begin at 11 a.m. or 7 p.m. depending on the day and location.
