ROCKINGHAM -- Police have charged a 54-year-old man in connection with the stabbing death of an 18-year-old during some sort of altercation early Friday in Richmond County.

Rockingham police say James Charles Lord was charged with murder. They identified the victim as Alexander Jessup Davis, also of Rockingham.

The stabbing happened early Friday in front of Lord’s house, in the 200 block of Robinson Street. Witnesses told police Davis tried to get away from Lord but was stabbed. He was rushed to a hospital in Pinehurst but died of chest wounds.

Police say Lord ran after the incident but was found by officers a short time later. He is being held under $750,000 bond. There is no word as to a motive for the stabbing.
