Your morning traffic update

By Steve Lyttle

There are no major collision-related problems on roads in Mecklenburg County at 8 a.m., but that isn't the case to the east.

Wrecks have been reported on state routes in Union, Anson and Stanly counties.

In addition, congestion is starting to be a problem in Charlotte. Here is a summary:

N.C. 24/27, Stanly County ... The Highway Patrol is clearing a wreck that involved an overturned vehicle near the Frog Pond community. Traffic delays are minor to moderate in the area.

N.C. 200, Union County ... A collision with injuries was reported about 7:45 a.m. at South Potter Road, in the southern part of the county. Delays are minor, as traffic volume is light.

N.C. 218, Anson County ... A collision with injuries was reported about 7:40 a.m. at New Hope Church Road, northwest of Polkville. Traffic volume is light, so delays are minor.

Providence Road ... Heavy congestion is slowing traffic to 15 mph between Rea Road and Fairview Road. This is due to the closure of Sardis Lane, where a downed power pole has closed the road.

I-85, Cabarrus County ... Congestion is building in the usual spot, near the construction zone.

I-485, south Mecklenburg ... Congestion is building between Providence Road and I-77, with average speeds of 20 to 25 mph.
