A Charlotte man will spend at least 20 years in prison after pleading guilty Friday in connection with the rape of a first grader.
William Parker, 23, was arrested last October after authorities say the victim told a friend about the sexual abuse. Parker admitted to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police that he’d engaged in sex acts with the child, the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office said Friday.
Records show Parker originally faced multiple charges, including rape and taking indecent liberties with a child.
On Friday, Parker pleaded guilty to first-degree rape, and was sentenced to 20-24 3/4 years in prison, prosecutors said. He’ll also have to register as a sex offender after his release, and will be required to undergo “satellite-based” monitoring the rest of his life, according to a news release.
