Pedestrian dies from injuries in collision

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say a man struck by a car as he tried to cross a street earlier this month has died from his injuries.

Authorities said James Frank Leake, Jr., 62, was walking across The Plaza near 35th Street northeast of uptown on June 8 when he was struck by a car. Leake was not in a marked crosswalk, police said, and was walking against the traffic signals.

Leake was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police said the driver of the car that struck him remained at the scene and was also taken to the hospital for treatment.

Police said no charges are being sought in the incident, and that neither alcohol nor speeding was a factor for the driver. April Bethea
