Crews repair water main break near Birkdale Village

Charlotte-Mecklenburg utilities crews have repaired a water main break that temporarily shut off service near Birkdale Village. Officials say they hope to have all water service restored to customers by early Saturday afternoon.

Utilities official said an eight-inch break was reported in the 16600 block of Northcross Drive. The cause of the damage is not yet known, but officials said they had to shut off other water lines in the area to make repairs. That led to water service being cut off to retail and dining establishments in the area, officials said.

CMU said crews have been working since midnight to repair the water main. The work was completed around 11:15 a.m., and officials are now working to restore service to all customers.

Earlier Saturday, CorneliusNews.net reported that several restaurants at Birkdale Village said they had water and said they planned to be open.
