2 firefighters hurt in South Blvd. fire

Two firefighters suffered minor injuries Tuesday morning in a house fire along South Boulevard, authorities say.

The fire forced the closure of South Boulevard, in the area between Arrowood Road and Archdale Drive, during much of the morning commute.

The blaze was reported about 6 a.m. at a house in the 6500 block of Wisteria Drive, near South Boulevard. Charlotte Fire Capt. Rob Brisley said it took a crew of 27 firefighters a little more than 40 minutes to subdue the blaze.

The two-story house was vacant and for sale, and an investigation into the blaze is under way. Brisley said the fire caused an estimated $100,000 in damage.

Two firefighters were treated for heat-related dehydration. Brisley said they were taken to an area hospital but were later released and expected to return to duty.

All lanes of South Boulevard were closed for about an hour, but crews were able to open one lane in each direction about 7 a.m.

Staff writer Meghan Cooke contributed.
