Gaston man faces sex charges

A 72-year-old Gaston County man was jailed last week after a case was referred to local authorities by a national task force that works to track down people who use the Internet to sexually exploit children.

Robert “Bob” Luther Hager of Alexis was arrested Friday and charged with three counts of indecent liberties with a minor and one count of a statutory sex offense with a minor.

Gaston County police said the charges stem from two cases that each involve boys who were 15 years old at the time of the crimes, which happened at Hager’s home.

Hager remained in Gaston County jail Tuesday.

Police said they were assisted by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, a national organization of task forces that represent thousands of federal, state and local law enforcement agencies across the nation.

The cases involving Hager remain under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Gaston County police at 704-866-3320 or Crime Stoppers at 704-861-8000.
