GAFFNEY, S.C. -- A 19-year-old Cherokee County woman has been charged in the April death of her 13-week-old son, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) officials say.
Fantasia Marie Barnett-Butler was charged Friday with homicide by child abuse and jailed in Cherokee County.
According to SLED officials, Barnett-Butler’s young son Mikeall Carter, died April 22. The arrest warrant says the death “occurred under circumstances manifesting an extreme indifference to human life.”
SLED officials say the infant’s death set off an investigation which resulted in the arrest last week. Circumstances of the child’s death were not reported.
