Water service restored in Birkdale Village

By Meghan Cooke

The water was back on overnight in Birkdale Village, after Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities crews repaired a line that had ruptured Thursday afternoon.

The break happened at the intersection of Townley Road and Birkdale Commons Parkway, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities. As a result, water service was cut to Birkdale Commons, a residential and commercial community near Lake Norman and Interstate 77.

Crews completed repairs about 11 p.m.

Birkdale Village's water service was also disrupted on Saturday following another water main break less than a mile from Thursday's break. That break, in the 16600 block of Northcross Drive, cut off water to several nearby retail stores and restaurants, officials said. Service was restored hours later.
