“To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die.” -Thomas Campbell
We all tend to believe that we have a long life ahead of us, filled with endless opportunities for ‘making memories’… Unfortunately, our family knows this isn’t always true; those possibilities can be gone in the blink of an eye. Suddenly you’re left with whatever ‘moments’ you managed to store up and hold on to, all of which might get confused and ultimately lost in the dark days following a loved one’s departure…
Which is exactly why the stories and recollections of others are so important to us. They are priceless treasures that help us remember things we’ve forgotten and allow us to experience ‘new moments’ through the teller’s eyes…
Recently, we heard from a couple of Brian’s childhood friends who decided to share a few things they remembered about him... They have no idea how much it meant to us…
teasing me about my last name, screaming ‘Kathy Godzilla, Kathy Godzilla’ at the top of his lungs...I was so embarrassed. More than anything, I remember him signing his name all over some papers and giving them to me, saying ‘Here’s my autograph, you better keep it because I’m going to be famous.’ I have so many memories. I love you Brian…”
I’ve been told that one day, the pain of remembering will be surpassed by the joy found in our memories… I certainly hope that’s true, but in the interim, I’m more than willing to face additional heartache in order to have a new (or even old) story about my son to cherish…
Wishing you many blessings, sunshine and hope…tg
