Rising eighth-grader James Hoover has received a Presidents Volunteer Service Award.
The award, which recognizes Americans of all ages who have volunteered significant amounts of their time to serve their communities and their country, was presented by the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program on behalf of President Barack Obama.
James participated in the Spirit of Community program this year as a representative of Ridge Road Middle in Charlotte.
James earned his award by volunteering at the school with multimedia, including the daily broadcasts at the school. James also organized a health fair for the school with participation from community organizations and Chick-fil-A. He built a website to help educate students on health benefits and was able to secure pedometers for Ridge Road staff.
