‘Banshee’ filming surprises motorists

A number of Charlotte motorists got a surprise Tuesday morning when they discovered a portion of North Graham Street closed.

The road was closed between 28th Street and Moretz Avenue so a crew from HBO Productions could film part of an upcoming “Banshee” episode. “Banshee” is a series that will begin airing later this year on the HBO-managed Cinemax cable network. It is the story of an ex-con who moves to a small Pennsylvania town and becomes sheriff.

Motorists coming into town on North Graham were detoured onto Statesville Avenue or North Tryon Streets as a detour.

The road is scheduled to reopen at 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Charlotte transportation officials said the city approved the road closure because there were several alternate routes. The transportation department sent out notices of the road closure last week.
