Miranda bridge work to take more time

By April Bethea

A north Charlotte bridge will remain closed for a few more weeks so crews can put down an final asphalt surface, the N.C. Department of Transportation said Tuesday.

The Miranda Road bridge was originally set to open on Friday. But crews now hope to finish it by late July, according to state transportation officials.

The bridge is located near Beatties Ford and Sunset roads above McIntyre Creek. Last August, a portion of the structure was washed away during a storm.

The state had originally considered making short-term repairs to the bridge, but decided to replace the entire structure. Construction started on the project in January.

While work is underway, drivers needing to travel on Miranda Road are being detoured onto Beatties Ford and Sunset roads back to Miranda.
