Your morning traffic update

By Steve Lyttle

Several traffic problems are being reported at 8:30 a.m. this Wednesday morning across the Charlotte region.

The biggest problem was on southbound Interstate 85, with a collision near the Statesville Avenue exit in north Charlotte. This happened about 7:45 a.m. and involved at least two cars.

The vehicles were pushed out of the travel lanes at 8:20 a.m., but backups extend for about 2 miles. All lanes are open now, but average travel speeds from Harris Boulevard southward are only 20 to 25 mph. That should improve by 8:45 a.m.

Congestion delays are a problem in the usual spots, too.

A roundup of the situation at 8:30 a.m.:

Central Avenue at Sharon Amity Road ... Traffic signals are not working properly at 8:30 a.m. Moderate delays in the area.

Mount Holly-Huntersville Road at Bobbit Way ... A collision, but only minor delays.

Providence Road ... Two earlier crashes have been cleared, but traffic is slow from the Arboretum area inbound.

Southbound I-85, Cabarrus ... Very slow traffic is now reported in the construction zone.

I-77 southbound, near the lake ... Traffic is averaging only 20 mph from Lake Norman down to Huntersville.

I-77 northbound, near Carowinds ... Congestion delays near I-485 are causing moderate problems.
