Police seek Family Dollar robber

Police are searching for an armed man who robbed a dollar store in southeast Charlotte this week.

Just before 10 p.m. Sunday, the man went into the Family Dollar on East Independence Boulevard near Idlewild Road, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said.

Then, the suspect showed a handgun to the store clerk, a 26-year-old woman, and demanded money, according to a police report. After getting the money, he walked out of the store.

The man also took a 32-ounce grape Powerade drink, the report says. He was last seen walking toward Idlewild Road.

On Thursday, police released surveillance images of the suspect.

Police said he was described as a black male who is about 25 years old and 5-foot-10 with a thin build. He had short hair and wore a black T-shirt and blue pants.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
