Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police charged 12 people with driving while impaired during a Sunday morning traffic checkpoint on Park Road near Kenilworth Avenue.

From 11 p.m. to 3 a.m., CMPD operated the checkpoint with the help of other Mecklenburg County agencies.

Police issued 55 charges during the crackdown, including 13 for not having an operators license, six for driving while their license was revoked and two for open container violations.

In all, 12 people were arrested during the checkpoint, police said.

The checking station was held in conjunction with the July 4 Governor’s Highway Safety Program “Booze it and Lose it Campaign,” which runs from June 29 to July 9.
