The man who reportedly fell out of a boat and drowned in Lake Wylie on Saturday afternoon has been identified as 67-year-old Tony Hinson of Charlotte, said York County Coroner Sabrina Gast.

Hinson’s body was pulled from the water around 7:15 p.m. Saturday in an area about a mile north of the Buster Boyd Bridge near the entrance of Mill Creek, said Cotton Howell, director of the York County Emergency Management agency.

Authorities were called to Flying Eagles Lane in southwestern Mecklenburg around 3:30 p.m. Saturday. First responders were told that an elderly man fell into the water near the South Carolina side of the lake, reported NewsChannel 36, the Observer’s news partner.

Multiple rescue teams from Mecklenburg and York counties responded to the scene.
