Man accused of shooting at Monroe officer

A 22-year-old man remained in the Union County jail early Tuesday after police say he fired shots at an officer over the weekend.

Brandon Alarcon is charged with assault with a deadly weapon on an officer.

The incident occurred around 12:49 a.m. Sunday. Authorities said Officer Robert Hall was on patrol when he heard a single gunshot and witnessed a Ford Mustang speed away from the area, reports NewsChannel 36, the Observer’s news partner.

The Mustang crashed into a sign at the Willow Glen Apartments, authorities said, and the driver and passenger jumped from the vehicle and ran.

A chase began, and authorities said the passenger -- whom they identified as Alarcon -- turned and fired at Hall. He was arrested. Observer staff writer April Bethea contributed.
