Sketch shows suspect in Liberty East Restaurant robbery

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have released a sketch of a man who robbed the Liberty East Restaurant last week.

The robbery happened just after midnight Saturday at the restaurant, located on East Independence Boulevard between North Sharon Amity and Idlewild roads in east Charlotte.

A man with a handgun came into the restaurant and demanded money from two women there, according to a police report. The man got the money and then fled. He was seen heading toward a neighborhood behind the restaurant, police said.

No one was injured.

On Tuesday, police released a sketch of the suspect and asked for the public’s help to identify him.

The suspect was described as a medium- to heavy-set black man in his 40s who is about 6 feet tall. Police said he had an unkempt, patchy, partially-graying beard and wore a gray, white and black camouflage hooded shirt and camouflage pants.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
