Statesville police say they are looking for a man who tried to abduct a child Thursday evening.

Police said a man driving a Dodge Magnum tried to lure a child from a home’s front yard on Reid Street around 5 p.m. Thursday.

The man promised candy to the child, police said. But when the man saw a parent, he immediately left the scene, traveling west on the 1300 block of Reid Street, according to police.

The suspect was described as a white man with short, possibly brown or black hair.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Statesville Police Department at 704-878-3406.
