CMPD: Man found dead behind business was murdered

Police have identified the man found dead behind a northeast Charlotte business Thursday morning, and investigators now say he was the victim of a homicide.

Just before 6 a.m. Thursday, Francisco Morales Sanchez’s body was discovered behind a business on Eastway Drive near its intersection with North Tryon Street, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police. The 40-year-old was lying face down in a grassy area by a parking lot near a shoe store and a restaurant, police said.

Police initially described the case as a “death investigation,” but on Friday, police said detectives had determined the case was a murder investigation.

Police have not said how Sanchez was killed or described a possible suspect.

Anyone with information about the killing is asked to call 704-432-TIPS or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
