Pond exploration

This free event is open to all ages and will explore the life found in three pond habitats. Pond exploration will run from 1-3 p.m. Sunday at Ribbon Walk Nature Preserve, 4601 Nevin Road. Bring or wear shoes that can get wet and muddy. To register: 704-432-6460.

Perennial palette of color

This session teaches how to use perennials for an ongoing and ever-changing color palette throughout the season. Class will be from 10 a.m. to noon July 14 at Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden, 6500 New Hope Road, Belmont.

Lead Horticulturist Kaiti ODonnell will lead the indoor discussion and attendees will go into the garden to see perennials in action. Class is $18 for members, $24 for nonmembers. For registration details: http://bit.ly/LVLOUN.
