Lincolnton party, fight end in arrests

Lincolnton police say they ran into a problem early Sunday while investigating reports of marijuana use and underage drinking at a party – a big fight.

Once they broke up the fight, police say they arrested three people and issued 13 citations to teens and young adults for underage drinking.

The series of events took place in the 700 block of North Aspen Street, across from Lincolnton High School. Police say they received calls about drinking and drug use at a party, and when they responded, they found several vehicles parked illegally at the school.

About the same time, police say, a fight broke out in the street. Several hundred people were at the scene, and Lincolnton authorities say police were not able to make any arrests for fighting. Instead, they settled for dispersing the crowd.

Once the crowd left, police said they found the property owners, Teresa and Kenneth Oxendine, but the couple would not cooperate with them. Police obtained a search warrant and managed to enter the house.

The Oxendines were arrested and charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and resisting a public officer. Also arrested was Tyler Jordon Nicks, on charges of consuming alcohol under the age of 19, and resisting a public officer.

Police say 13 others were cited for consuming alcohol under the age of 21.

Police Sgt. Jason Munday said the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, N.C. Highway Patrol, Lincolnton Fire Department, Lincoln County EMS and Lincoln County Rescue helped in the case.

“This case is still under investigation, and more arrests are expected,” Munday said.
