More Information

CNBC has ranked North Carolina fourth on its list of America's top 5 states for business.

North Carolina ranked 3rd on the list last year.

The Tar Heel state ranked highest in infrastructure and technology, workforce, technology and innovation and business friendliness. The state's ranked lower in the health of its overall economy and its quality of life.

CNBC is counting down the top 5 during its live programming Tuesday.

North Dakota, where drilling for natural gas has boosted the local economy, ranked 5th on the list after ranking 13th last year.
