Thoughts on Cypress Point, Phil Mickelson, Michelle Wie, etc.

I was just thinking:

• I don’t have a bucket list but if I did I’d put playing Cypress Point on it.

• The decline in Phil Mickelson’s game has become seriously worrisome.

• Bless her heart, Michelle Wie putts like a sportswriter.

• I’ve been thinking about buying some new clubs. Yeah, that ought to do it.

• I thought I was in heaven recently but it was only Linville.

• He’s usually listed behind the likes of Bobby Jones, Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods but you could make a case for Sam Snead as the best ever. Not saying he was, just saying you could make a case. Hall of Famer Peter Thomson once said of him, “Like classic plays and symphonies, Sam Snead doesn’t just belong to a generation. His mark will be left on golf into eternity.”

• Those energy drinks work. They may not cut off a lot of strokes but they’ll keep you from falling asleep in the golf cart.

• The way we rhapsodize about the game you’d think there would have been more songs written about golf.

• Sean Foley, Tiger’s swing coach, is one of the freshest breezes to blow into the game in awhile. He’s only a year older than Tiger, has several tattoos, confesses to a marijuana period awhile back and openly wishes Tiger would communicate better with him.

• I’m all for colorful attire but some of those guys on the Tour could use a coordinator or see an optometrist. I don’t care what anybody says, bright green pants and a sky blue shirt don’t go together.

• Going to the beach soon. Hope they don’t run out of hushpuppies before I get there. As for golf, I’m hoping to go out and let the Dunes Club kick my fanny again.

• Nowadays, if I couldn’t say “used to,” I’d have a hard time conversing on the golf course. I used to not be like that.

• Not to promote sinning but there ain’t much better than a cold beer after a hot round.
