Mint Hill police say a 24-year-old man was killed and two others seriously injured Wednesday night when their car hit a tree and split in two.
Police on Thursday identified the victim as Enrique Omar Ochoa, of Mint Hill.
He was thrown from a vehicle which went off Bain School Road, near Lawyers Road, shortly before 8 p.m.
The vehicle hit a tree and split in two, according to Mint Hill police.
Ochoa was thrown from the vehicle, and officers found his body on the lawn in front of a house.
Cameron Thomas Wells, 18, and Brandon Scott Smith, 19, each from Mint Hill, also were hurt. They were taken to Carolinas Medical Center, and police said they were in critical condition Thursday.
Police say Wells owned the vehicle, but they aren't sure who was driving.
The investigation is expected to take several days, and Mint Hill police say they are getting help from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police's major crash unit.
