Editor’s Note: The following suggestion is for highly motivated people with an abnormally high number of bungee cords.

The winner: I went to Lowe’s and bought a 2-inch diameter plastic PVC pipe and two “adaptor coupling fittings.” (See photo.) I used a hacksaw to cut the pipe (a relatively lengthy process doing it by hand) to a length about 1 or 2 inches longer than the bungee cords I wanted to organize. Then I just pushed the adaptor couplings onto both ends of the pipe and added the bungees. Voila! They’re ready to use without the hassle of having to find and untangle them first. Keep ants from invading feeder

To keep ants from making their way into your hummingbird feeder, place a small amount of solid vegetable shortening on the hanger or anywhere ants would travel. It is sticky for the ants and nontoxic for the hummingbirds. Margie Gardner, Lake Wylie
