Sheriff: Medical examiner needed to confirm identity of body found on the Outer Banks

By Elisabeth Arriero

Detectives are waiting for a medical examiner to determine whether a body found on the Outer Banks is that of an Ohio woman who went missing on July 4, the Associated Press reported.

Dare County Sheriff Doug Doughtie said an autopsy may be completed as early as Monday.

The body was found about 20 to 30 miles from where Lynn Jackenheimer, 33, of Ashland, Ohio, was last seen, reported the AP.

Investigators were unable to determine whether the body was that a man or woman.

The Ohio woman was reported missing after she didn’t come home from a trip to the Outer Banks with her two children and her on-and-off boyfriend, Nate Summerfield, the AP reported.

When Summerfield returned to Ashland after the trip, he dropped the children off in town and drove away.
