How do you identify women who have been eating healthfully or dieting for a while? Let me share a little experience with you to help. Recently, two of my close friends and I (all who are very diet conscious) made a stop at a local big box store to pick up vitamins (JUST vitamins…) and wandered a bit through the store in search of them. We came to the section of the store labeled “Cake, Cookies, Bread, and Rolls,” and knew that this enticing aisle would beckon us all. We veered quickly to the cooler that contained all of the sweet treats and ogled over all of the chocolate-covered delights that lurked there.

The game we played was a fun one. If you could choose any cake in the cooler and eat the whole thing, which one would you choose? Three shrewd, educated women, standing in front of a grocery cooler, debating about hypothetical cake flavors for a full five minutes. And no, in this hypothetical game, we weren’t sharing our cakes… we were eating the entire thing. (In case you're curious, my imaginary choice was the Tiramisu cake).

Sometimes I feel that my life while “Getting Fit” is a bit like this. I’m constantly standing outside of the cooler staring in. Always wishing for things I can't or shouldn't have. Don’t let me kid you, there are foods that I miss eating while on a diet. A few of my favorites? Pizza (extra cheese). Ice cream (double fudge brownie). Sandwiches (Jersey Mike’s Turkey and Provolone). Iced Frappacinos (with the whipped cream). That’s just the tip of the iceberg!

Sometimes it’s easy to live healthfully. Sometimes it’s hard. I’m having one of those weeks where it’s hard.

My fiancé brought me home an iced cappuccino all the way from his visit to Buffalo (not on my diet plan) and I’ve been really busy and slacking on making prepackaged snacks lately. I haven’t lost any weight in two weeks and I’m feeling a bit stagnant and discouraged. What are these? All excuses to eat. Here I am, standing outside the proverbial dessert cooler, and giving in.

Get back on the wagon with me this week. Stop longing for the cake and get on the treadmill. And if you’re looking for the other women on a diet, we’re in front of the cooler with the cake!
