Landscaping with native plants

Mecklenburg County Master Gardener Margaret Genkins will teach how to use native plants in residential landscapes beginning at 3 p.m., Sunday at The Lower Providence Community House, 9735 Community House Road. Genkins’ gardens have been featured in local garden tours and she’ll highlight organic gardening and incorporating plants native to the southern Piedmont to help create a lower-maintenance yard or woodland space. Homebuyer education workshop

Local professionals will discuss what you need to know when buying a home from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. July 28 at First Community Bank, 347 North Main St., Mooresville. Cost is $15 and will include materials and lunch. Topics include budgeting, shopping for a home, how to read a credit report, the mortgage loan process and closing the transaction, among others.
