Lake Norman papers name Proctor editor

Glenn Proctor, who was part of a Pulitzer-winning team of journalists and later served as editor in Richmond, has been named editor of the Lake Norman Publications.

His appointment, effective Monday, was announced by the company this week.

Proctor retired in June 2011 as vice president and executive editor of the Richmond Times-Dispatch, where he had been editor for five years. He also has worked at newspapers in Ohio, Kentucky, Iowa, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey and Virginia, and he worked in journalism with the U.S. Marine Corps and United Press International.

Proctor also was a congressional press secretary.

He served in Vietnam with the U.S. Marines.

In 1987, he was part of a team of journalists at the Akron (Ohio) Beacon-Journal that won a Pulitzer for its coverage of the takeover of Goodyear Tire and Rubber.

In his new role, he will oversee operations of the Herald Weekly, Mooresville Weekly, Denver Weekly, and the monthly Mountain Island Monitor.
