1 dead, 3 hurt in Salisbury wreck

SALISBURY -- One man was killed and three other people injured Monday morning in a two-vehicle collision at one of Salisbury’s major intersections.

The crash happened about 6:45 a.m. at Innes Street and Jake Alexander Boulevard. The collision closed a portion of Innes Street, which is U.S. 29, for several hours.

Salisbury police say a van traveling on Jake Alexander Boulevard collided with a Chrysler that was southbound on Innes Street. The driver of the van was thrown from the vehicle and killed. Two other people in the van, along with the car’s driver, were hospitalized.

The name of the victim has not been released. Police are investigating the collision.

According to the Salisbury Post, police say the traffic signal at the intersection was operating on blinking lights at the time of the collision, rather than its normal system. Police told the newspaper that the van apparently went through a red blinking light.
