Family dog rescued after apartment fire in north Charlotte

No injuries were reported Wednesday morning when a two-alarm blaze damaged units at a north Charlotte apartment building.

The fire was reported around 7 a.m. at the Townes at University Pointe apartments. That is on Countryside Drive, off North Tryon Street.

Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to two units. Nobody was home in the unit where the fire started. The cause is thought to be accidental. Crews safely rescued a dog from one of the apartments. The American Red Cross is at the scene, providing help for displaced residents.

The same apartment building was damaged by a fire a few months ago.
