As a nurse for 30 years, Carolyn Mullins knows music can be the best medicine. She is a board member for Charlotte Chamber Music, known for its Living Room Concerts in Charlotte homes and free First Tuesday Concerts from October through May. Although summer is quiet for most arts organizations, Mullins checks up on donors and volunteers with phone calls, lunches, and handwritten letters.
Summer gala: Mullins coordinated the Charlotte Chamber Musics first Gallery Gala at Hodges Taylor Gallery on June 15. The organization raised more than $8,900. Mullins attributes the success to the boards focus on what attendees wanted to hear and see at the event. You find that programming can make a huge difference, she said.
Chamber music: New programs will spice up the usual slate of performers this season. Well have some different trios that come in that are very modern, Mullins said.
Giving back: After years spent taking her two children to music lessons, Mullins enjoys the mix of playing the violin and volunteering with Chamber Music. It wound up being really nice to be involved in giving back in the community through music somehow, she said.
