Bon Odori

The Japanese Society in Charlotte presents the 28th annual Bon Odori festival. Enjoy a Kids Taiko (Japanese drum) club performance, Aikido demonstration, tea ceremony, calligraphy, origami, Yukata (a casual, summer-time kimono) fitting and games, as well as food from Japanese restaurants.

Music

Beach Music Festival

The festival, part of Kannapolis’ Summer Entertainment Series, will feature such bands as The Tams (Friday, 7 p.m.), The Holiday Band (Saturday, 5 p.m.), Atlantic Groove (Saturday, 7 p.m.) and Jim Quick & Coastline (Saturday, 8:30 p.m.).

Movie

Cult Movie Monday – The Goonies

8 p.m. Monday. Actor’s Theatre, 650 E. Stonewall St. lightfactory.org

The next installment of Cult Movie Monday, presented by The Light Factory and Theatre 650, is the 1985 movie “The Goonies.” The movie is free, popcorn is free and there’s a cash bar. Contests will be held after the film.

Whitewater River Jam Concert Series

The U.S. National Whitewater Center’s Whitewater River Jam Concert Series continues with blues rock band Lefty Williams Band. Admission is free, but parking is $5 and normal charges apply for rafting and other activities.
